Did you pick flowers and make a May basket, hang it on the door of a friend, ring the doorbell and run, hiding to see what the friend's reaction would be to your lovely surprise? I remember doing just that when I was in grade school. What a lovely thing to do and what a lovely thing to receive.
I am constantly pleased with the opportunities to do little unexpected things for each other without expectation of return. And I am always surprised when Spirit gives us those little gifts as well.
I think of all the wonderful little serendipitous things that happen as those little gifts that Spirit gives us all the time. Like when we are thinking of someone we haven't spoken to for a while and they call us out of the blue. Or thinking about someone and having them show up in the most unexpected place as we just "run into" them.
Ernest Holmes says that our lives are the way they are because of all the thoughts we have had in the past. It seems to me that we can give ourselves those wonderful little presents of pleasant surprises when we expect good to happen. I have noticed that many of us, maybe even most of us, have a way of expecting the worst or worrying about "what if" and then saying to ourselves, "Why me? Why do these things happen to me?" Perhaps it's because we keep expecting the worst. Since the Law always says "YES!" what else |
