Born in West Covina, Rev. Grace is from the third generation of Californians in her family. She considers herself a "California gypsy" as she has lived in Northern and Southern California. “from San Diego to San Francisco, and lived in such lovely places as Cambria, Arroyo Grande, Santa Cruz.” Grace added, “and, now I have the pleasure of living in Camarillo.”
Of her youthful period, Grace says, “I was a Methodist, a Presbyterian, a Southern Baptist, and a Roman Catholic. Ultimately, I found that none of those religions felt like what I knew about God. That led me to what I call the ‘dark ages,’ in which I had no church and no spiritual practice. When I got a diagnosis of a terminal illness, I realized that what was missing was Spirit. Fortunately for me, Religious Science was recommended to me. Actually, Spirit had to tap me on the shoulder three times before I got the clue. Three different friends told me I should go hear Rev. Marilyn Jensen-Johnson in Arroyo Grande and I instantly found my spiritual ground. I joined the church the first day I got there. It felt like home immediately. I have since found that that is true for very many people as they come into contact with Science of Mind. It's what we always believed and so it is easy to find our spiritual family with those who are like-minded.”
Rev. Grace has had a wide variety of career experiences in her life….
“I've been an answering service operator, a banker, a steel salesperson, a body worker, an advisor at a university, and raised and sold parrots. Although these jobs took a lot of time in my life, they had nothing to do with the true nature of who I was or am.”
“The real essence of Grace was ready and willing to come forth. My real nature is as an artist. I've done needlework, played at the piano and flute (and the gong). I sing, dance, and paint in watercolor and acrylic.”
As I have continued my growth through the study of Science of Mind, I have come to understand that the principles espoused by Ernest Holmes are indeed the way that we can move our lives into alignment with Spirit and manifest all the things that make our lives more full of joy. As we progress from being the victim of our lives, thinking that the things that happen to us are caused by something outside of us, to becoming aware that there is more to us and to our paths than just existing, we begin to create the things we deserve. This stage is what the DVD "The Secret" is all about. It's about how to "get" things. We can use the principles of Science of Mind to align ourselves with our God selves and we can bring physical things, money, and relationships into our lives.
And yet there are two additional stages of life. After we have created those strong "ego" selves, we can begin to focus our attention on living a life that is peaceful and tranquil and filled with love for everyone. That is when we find that our life is being lived through our intention. We see in our lives what we intend to see and there is no work involved, we just are.
At the last stage of development, we recognize that we are living as God the Creator of our own life. We are completely one with the benevolent presence of the Divine Source of everything and the life of the Creator is just in being ourselves. We are creative in all aspects of life and we appreciate all forms of joy.
My vision for the Camarillo Center for Spiritual Living is to create a place where all the arts are honored and valued, including the art of living joyfully with enough of everything to make our lives a pleasure, enough for all our needs with plenty to share. A place where the care of the soul involves letting Spirit out in all the ways that bring us joy and happiness. Doing what makes us feel good is important to opening the heart, the soul, the body, and the Mind of God in each one of us. Let's sing and dance and laugh and cry together as we learn to grow in Wisdom and love more. That is what we came for.
